“I’ve been a physical therapist since 2007. Starting out in an out-patient orthopedic setting I found myself drawn to those suffering with chronic pain and I quickly began feeling like I was ill-equipped to help them. Traditional methods weren’t as effective at treating chronic pain as they are with acute injuries or post operative injuries. I needed more tools. I needed to learn more. I didn’t have the answers. In fact, I felt lost with these challenging clients. I took my first course in Myofascial release (MFR) in 2008 and from then on I was hooked. I started practicing MFR 16 years ago, and it changed the way I looked at therapy and the human body. I realized our bodies have the capacity to withstand high levels of trauma, injury, and dysfunction often long before their weakest link starts breaking down and revealing itself. Often, our point of pain isn’t necessarily where the injury started. Sometimes it’s even from our birth experience or a trauma we’ve forgotten (or suppressed). But the body knows. It doesn’t forget.
What attracted me to physical therapy in the first place was the opportunity to be a detective; to figure out what’s really going on with an injury. The more people I treated, the more chronic injuries I faced, I realized I needed to expand my skillset even more.
A few years later I dove into craniosacral therapy, then visceral (organ) manipulation, then brain and nerves, and then lymphatic drainage. This multifaceted and 3-dimensional approach to treating the ENTIRE system, in combination with the finessing practice of LISTENING to my client’s body needs, revolutionized the way I practice. It has offered positive outcomes in my clients with a wide variety of extremely challenging issues, often considered hopeless by many. I was even often surprised by how this full system approach would unweigh a person’s entire body, mind, and soul. They would start sharing dreams, goals, and aspirations they decided to embark on now that they were liberated from whatever pain or dysfunction was imprisoning them. They would often find HOPE again. I love a good challenge and the opportunity to facilitate healing.”
